A Visit Home

I often wonder if there is something in our DNA that allows us to connect to the homeland of our ancestors. As a first generation citizen of the USA, that land for me is Sicily, I was there as a child, but the first visit that I can totally recall was when I was seventeen. Sitting in the back seat of the car, I still remember staring at the mountains along the route to "our town" and having this overwhelming feeling of familiarity and comfort. Is it because I had been there as a young child? Is there something programmed into your being that connects you to the journey of your ancestors? The memories of the sea and sand, the voices in the streets are powerful and long lasting.
